This is such a cool and unique restaurant in the third floor of the Sycamore Square building! We were seated near a window through which I could see the bay and the mountains beyond town in the distance. I loved all the warm wood tones and the hanging red and yellow sign with their signature black cat on it. There was a lively energy throughout the packed restaurant and our server was super friendly. We ordered crab cakes and Caesar salad to start, and for dinner I had the wild sockeye salmon with rice and balsamic Brussels and my bf had the shrimp po’boy with fried green beans. We shared a side of succotash. The service was fast, and everything was clearly fresh. The succotash was a little too salty and some of the food was heavier than I’m used to, but for this style of cuisine I’d say it’s very good. The kitchen was also accommodating to ny special request that my fish be grilled plain and served without the soy glaze or the Serrano chile sauce—instead, my server had them prep it with a compound butter which was delicious. We will return if we’re in the area again!
We had a great dinner at the Black Cat. We ordered the corn hummus as an appetizer, the chicken sandwich and beef dip. All excellent! Good selection of craft beers. And an interesting environment in a heritage building. We recommend reservations - this restaurant is busy (another good sign).
I've been here for both dinner and breakfast, both are really good. With this restaurant being on the top floor of one of Fairhaven's taller buildings, you get some nice views. I'd highly recommend the crab cake benedict. And if you're here for dinner, definitely get the generously sized fondue appetizer.
We went here for an anniversary dinner and we were lucky to have a reservation because the wait was an hour and a half otherwise. I got a prime rib special which was excellent and way worth the $35 price, however the $35 miso cod special was lacking in miso flavor and furikake in the rice which only had a sprinkle of it on. The price being the same on those two dishes was a little crazy but the service was quick and very good. The view from it being at the top of the building was also very nice and cozy, but the space seemed a little cramped. Overall though it was a good experience and I'd recommend the prime rib special dish if it is still there.
Two flights up a charming historic building, you'll find a fantastic dining experience in Bellingham at the renowned Black Cat 🐈⬛ restaurant. Over the past decade, I have dined here several times, and the food, service, and ambiance have always met the high expectations. Tonight, I was served by a very polite and friendly server, Gracie, who recommended the Jalapeño Chicken and an old-fashioned cocktail! It was the perfect meal! Now, off to Boulevard Park to watch the sunset!
