Ivar's Salmon House

One of my favorite Seattle Restaurants. Ivars is a Greater Seattle staple for delicious fast food style fish and chips and this is their nicer sit down restaurant. The decor and atmosphere is great, service is good, and food is amazing if you like simple classic seafood. I recommend the sampler which my wife got. It has King, Sockeye, and Coho Salmon along side veggies and mash potatoes. I got the crab cakes and coconut shrimp. I will definitely come back for the Crab Cakes and Coconut Shrimp was good too. The raw oysters were small but incredibly creamy and rich—absolutely delicious. The salmon had a wonderful natural flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. I loved the atmosphere, which has that classic, nostalgic American diner feel. If the weather is nice, the outdoor seating along the water looks like a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal.

This time, I went with a casual tasting: three types of fish ’n chips—original Alaska true cod, Cajun-style cod, and wild Alaska salmon—alongside a side-by-side comparison of white clam chowder and smoked salmon chowder. Each one has its own distinct character, from the light, crispy batter on the cod to the richer, more flavorful salmon. Perched alongside Union Lake in a beautiful location, enjoy a delicious cup of chowder, lively spirits, or a great dish at this fabulous restaurant. The interior is a vibe. Service was great. Many food and drink options for anyone’s taste. It’s a pleasure to be able to eat alongside the water with a view of the city, traveling boats, and sea planes.

Food and service were both subpar. I chose this place for the salmon sampler. While I've had all three varieties in the past, I thought I'd enjoy comparing them at the same time. I should've heeded the lower reviews and just went somewhere that gets it right. That said, it does have a great view of the Seattle skyline over the lake.
